01.  O Gymru

The words to are unashamedly patriotic proclaiming 'Gymru' and 'Walia' which, like 'Gwalia', are Welsh for Wales, and the song has become a sort of 'theme tune' for the Choir.

 

02.  Cole Porter Medley

The Choir enjoys performing this medley of great songs by Cole Porter. Another Openin', Another Show; Just One Of Those Things; You Do Something To Me; So In Love and Who Wants To Be A Millionnaire.

 

03.  Lisa Lan

The beautiful Lisa Lanis a sad song about unrequited love in which the lover says at the end 'I hope as my dear friend you will come to the side of my grave'.

04.  Delilah

The Gwalia was privileged to sing this famous Tom Jones song as part of the choir on the pitch in Cardiff’s Millenium Stadium, when Wales defeated France to win the 2012 Six Nations Grand Slam. 

 

05.  Deep Harmony

James Hearn has produced this lovely arrangement. A hymn of praise and plea for succour from 'O great Jesus' (O Jesu mawr).

 

06.  Make You Feel My Love

The composer was a young Jewish folk-singer from Minnesota called Robert Zimmerman who so admired the works of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas that he changed his name to Bob Dylan. This arrangement of Adele's 2008 version is the first time it has been recorded by a male choir.

 

07.  Pan Fo’r Nos Yn Hir

The lyrics to the second verse of this beautiful ballad (When night is long) were written by the late Ellis Jones who was the Treasurer of the Gwalia for many years. Irene, the widow of all-round entertainer and composer Ryan Davies, has kindly given permission for this arrangement by Haydn James.

 

08.  Kalinka  (Soloist: Dave Sweet)

A traditional Russian folk song arranged by Alexandrov for his famous Red Army Ensemble, here translated into English except for the last verse which Dave does in Welsh!

 

09.  Rhys

Better known by his Bardic name Elfed,W E Lewis,a former minister at King’s Cross Chapel,wrote the words to, a hymn in which 'Hedd' (Peace) recurs in each verse of this superb arrangement by James Hearn.

 

10.  Va Pensiero

The choir tours frequently and in 2014 visited a choir in Lombardy where we sang, in the original language, Italy's 'unofficial national anthem', (Speed Your Journey), the chorus of the Hebrew slaves from Verdi's Opera 'Nabucco'.

 

11.  Cwm Rhondda (Bread of Heaven)

The Gwalia's arrangement of the famous hymn, is unusual in that it is in both Welsh and English. The last chorus declares 'O to remain in His love

 

12.  Can't Help Falling In Love

13.  Hand Me Down My Silver Trumpet
